Pachuca, led by Moroccan star Oussama Idrissi, managed to secure a thrilling victory over Egypt’s Al Ahly, the African champions, in a penalty shootout (6-5) after the match ended 0-0 in both regular and extra time. This historic win led the Mexican team to a crucial date in the Intercontinental Cup Final against the Spanish giant, Real Madrid.

The highly anticipated final will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 5:00 PM GMT, at Lusail Stadium in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The Key Player of Pachuca

Oussama Idrissi, the Moroccan winger, has been the standout player for Pachuca throughout the competition. He showed exceptional form, scoring one goal and assisting in another, playing a pivotal role in helping his team secure two major titles: the first being the Americas Derby against the South American champions, and the second being the Challenge Cup after defeating Al Ahly.

This brilliance has led Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti and his players to prepare for a special challenge: stopping Idrissi’s danger. But who is this Moroccan who has stolen the spotlight?

A Career Full of Twists

Oussama Idrissi started his professional career in Europe with high expectations when he joined Sevilla FC on October 5, 2020, from AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands. Despite the high hopes, things didn’t go as planned, as he only played 17 games with the Andalusian club.

Looking for regular playing time, Idrissi went on a series of loans, starting with Ajax Amsterdam, where he played 14 matches, then moved to Cadiz, where he featured in 13 games, and finally had a standout spell with Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 matches. Despite these positive periods, he couldn’t convince Sevilla of his abilities, leading to the mutual termination of his contract on September 1, 2023.

A Fresh Start with Pachuca

In September 2023, Idrissi joined Pachuca in Mexico, marking a new chapter in his career. In 52 matches with the team, he scored 10 goals and made 18 assists, becoming one of the key pillars of the team. His standout performances included leading Pachuca to win the CONCACAF Champions League for the sixth time in the club’s history, and he directly contributed to the victory over Botafogo in the Americas Derby.

Limited International Impact

On the international stage, despite his considerable talent, Idrissi has not made a significant impact with the Moroccan national team. He has played just 9 international matches, without scoring any goals, with his last appearance coming on June 17, 2023. He was first called up by coach Hervé Renard, but he struggled to establish himself in the starting lineup.

Will He Stand Up to Real Madrid?

Now, Idrissi faces the biggest test of his career as he prepares to face Real Madrid in a match watched by millions. Ancelotti will try to stop his threat, but the Moroccan player hopes to lead his team to an historic achievement.

Will Pachuca, under the leadership of Idrissi, manage to turn the tables, or will the experience of Real Madrid prevail? The answer will come on the pitch at Lusail Stadium next Wednesday
